 What is the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust?

A fund which provides for the administration and the investment of gifts and bequests for the benefit of the Cities of Lynchburg and Bedford and the Counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell. Needs served are broad in scope including human services to children, youth, the needy, and the elderly; education; health; the arts; and the humanities.

The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust exists to promote local philanthropy and
to simplify the process of giving. The Trust receives and manages permanent gifts for the perpetual benefit of the Greater Lynchburg area.

The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust now consists of 101 named Special Funds and an Unrestricted Fund. Trust assets are managed by our Trustee Banks; SunTrust Bank, BB&T, Bank of America, and Wachovia Bank.

The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust is one of more than 600 such community funds over the nation rendering a valuable service to their respective communities and to donors interested in the present and future of their communities and their neighbors.


The First Community Foundation - All Of Us Can Be Philanthropists

The First Community Foundation - The Cleveland Foundation
was established by Frederick H. Goff in 1914. It was his belief that everybody- no matter how great or how limited their means - could give funds to their communities which would then be used to solve fundamental problems.

Goff recognized that the value of a community foundation was that it insured that the gifts of people who care about their communities would continue to address problems in perpetuity.

The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust is one of more than 600 community foundations in the U.S. serving the philanthropic interests of individuals and enhancing the quality of life of their communities.

The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust was established in 1972 by then - Fidelity American Bank. The Trust serves the philanthropic interests of individuals and enhances the quality of life of the Greater Lynchburg area. It provides the vehicle by which bequests and contributions are permanently invested for the public good.
